Because I was inspired by the lovely @ImWendy on Twitter, I’ve written a 100 Things About Me post. I think I did something similar a while ago, but it’s somewhere in the archives and Iain’t looking for it. I’m also putting this in the About Me section so you can find it more easily. There’s no particular order to this, I don’t think, but there might be one as I write it.
100 Things About Me
- I’m a Taurus.
- I’m a child of the 80s.
- I’m a grammar nazi.
- I’m slightly more than slightly OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder).
- I’ve been diagnosed as clinically depressed.
- I don’t currently take any prescription meds for my depression.
- I’m a cat person.
- I absolutely love science ficton and fantasy, and will smother you in your sleep if you suggest dreck like Campire Chronicles is in that group. Crap is not a genre.
- I have a decent singing voice; I was in several choruses in my high school, including the elite Chamber Choir.
- I can read music.
- I’ve been trained to play piano (about ten years of lessons), but although I can pick out a piece if I have the music, I am very, very rusty.
- I only started learning piano because my parents were told that I didin’t have enough of a reach to play flute (my first choice).
- I now have a one-octave-plus-one-key finger spread, and no desire to learn flute.
- I have a scar on my right butt-cheek from when I was a baby and my aunt’s nasty dog bit me there.
- I did not develop a fear of dogs, though.
- I do not have a fear of any animals, beyond a healthy respect for potentially dangerous animals like venomous ones.
- I grew up in New York City, though we lived in a one family house. Yes, they do have those in NYC.
- My favorite season is autumn.
- I eat almost every food, including sushi/raw oysters and weird meats (sweetbreads, anyone?).
- I do not like anything overcooked; my meat must be medium-rare, my toast barely browned.
- I hate croutons.
- I forget to ask the waitstaff to leave off the croutons 90% of the time I order a salad. But I’m fine with picking them off myself.
- I’m also a manners nazi.
- I believe “manners” includes: Manners when you go to restaurants, movie theatres, and when you’re in a guest in someone’s house.
- I firmly believe it is rude to ask people to “bring something” to a party unless it’s a potluck.
- I also firmly believe most people haven’t the faintest idea how to be a good host. Or a good guest, for that matter.
- I loathe reality TV with every fiber of my being.
- I am not a shopaholic, but I love shoes. I only own about 8 pairs though.
- I am a lipstick addict. I own about ten of them.
- My favorite vacation spot is on the beach, somewhere warm. I rarely get to go to spots like that.
- I have a five-year old son we call “Bunker Monkey” (read the archives).
- I love my son, but he drives me insane sometimes. I often wonder if he’ll grow up to be happy and well-liked.
- I’m oddly proud of the fact that my son looks more like me as he ages. Which I have absolutely nothing to do with, beyond donating genes, so it’s a strange thing to be proud of.
- I have sensory issues that I just discovered, due to finding them in my son.
- For example, I’m a “picker” – I can’t leave a scab alone, it drives me crazy until I…
- I also love motion and speed, especially on the back of a motorycle.
- I own a pink motorcycle helmet.
- Pink is NOT my favorite color; my room when I was a kid was pink, and I grew to dislike it.
- As someone with olive skin tone, I learned years ago that certain colors look different on my that they do on girls with blue undertones in their skin (olive-toned people have yellow undertones).
- True red looks orange on me. It’s like a really dull party trick.
- I love action movies; my taste in movies tends to run more like most guy’s tastes. I hate chick flicks.
- I took a speed-reading course when I was a teenager, and ever since have had to work on not speed-reading everything.
- I’m skinny; I’ve always been very thin, and except for the few years following my son’s birth, I’ve always been thin.
- My favorite color is green.
- I live in the basement of what will eventually be a geodesic dome.
- I’ve never seen any of the Godfather movies all the way through. This does not make me a bad person; it just makes me a loyal Sicilian.
- My ethnicity is Colombian, Lebanese, and Sicilian. Drugs, arms, and getting someone knocked off are my specialties. Just kidding.
- I curse. A lot. But I can stop cursing if it’s inappropriate to.
- I’m lazy. But I do like projects, so I usually get a lot done each day.
- I’m vain (another Taurus trait).
- I have a navel piercing. I got it before I had my son, and only had to change it out for a longer post while I was pregnant. I never took it off, not even for the C-section.
- I’m a night owl; my energy dips in the AM and through early afternoon.
- I love to salsa.
- I have a tattoo of a phoenix in flames on my right shoulder. It’s a year old. It’s symbolic.
- I plan on getting more tattoos. Soon.
- I enjoy cooking, though I don’t get to do it enough.
- I usually wind up with obscenely high scores when I take virginity tests (or low…whichever means I’ve been around the block a time or two).
- I love to read, and can easily spend all day doing it.
- My favorite fruit is pomegranate (I’m complicated).
- My best physical feature above the neck is probably my eyes. Below: My legs. Or ass. Ask the husband.
- I’m not afraid of failure, most of the time. It just doesn’t phase me.
- I’m actually not afraid of much, come to think of it.
- The only things I am afraid of are: Being alone, being unnoticed, being ignored. I told you – vain.
- Oddly, I hate being ignored, but sometimes I can’t stand to be noticed. I live in my head. A lot.
- I can usually morph into whatever I need to be at the moment: Social butterfly, take-charge leader, etc. As long as it’s temporary.
- I excel at behind-the-scenes support. I was born for administrative work.
- I dye my hair. Grey hairs at 37 are not fun.
- I own a Macbook. I’ve worked on PC’s, and am comfortable with them, I just prefer Macs.
- I have to be right. Yes, it’s annoying.
- I don’t care if my husband looks at/drools over/fantasizes about hot women. I often point out hot chicks to him. Yes, he knows how lucky he is.
- I don’t take compliments well. At. All.
- I’m big on sarcasm and snark, but I never do it with people who don’t get it. That’s just mean.
- I’m an excellent judge of character. I usually know within minutes whether someone is good/trustworthy/truthful/etc.; I’ve never been wrong.
- I love to write things out longhand. It’s a sensory thing, and it also helps me remember better.
- I have one older sister, who is eleven months older than me. Our relationship isn’t terrific.
- When I was 18 I seriously considered joining the Air Force.
- I have a pathological need to have a full freezer and pantry by winter.
- I love all Spanish food, including Mexican and South American.
- I enjoy kayaking by myself, on a quiet lake. I’m not a whitewater girl, despite the thrills. Too scary.
- When I was little I volunteered to hold a ten-foot python. It was awesome.
- I’m an avoider with things that make me uncomfortable.
- I was a virgin until I was 19.
- I’ve been engaged once before my current husband; I don’t know where that guy is today.
- I enjoy being considered “exotic” in this small town.
- Going to bed without flossing makes me have dreams about losing my teeth.
- I still do it though. Infrequently.
- I’m not a snob when it comes to things like food or shopping.
- But I do love patronizing fancy-shmancy places too.
- Bunker Hubby is 12 years older than me. That’s a full cycle of the Chinese zodiac, so we’re both Rats.
- I get along very well with cats, for being born in the year of the Rat.
- I hate little yippy dogs.
- I used to raise mice.
- The only “C” grades I’ve ever gotten have been in economics, in college.
- If I’d have stuck with it, I’d have a Ph.D. in psychiatry by now.
- I still think about going back to get it, but it would just be a vanity degree now.
- Getting my MSW was one of the easiest things I’ve ever done.
- I have high arches. I didn’t realize this until a few months ago. It hasn’t caused me many problems – yet.
- I had a slight breast cancer scare a few months ago. I have a sneaking suspicion it’ll be back.
- Part of me likes the drama of dying young. Most of me would rather not.
- I cry easily, more so now that I’m off the antidepressants. But I think this has always been part of my nature, and is different from clinical depression. Trust me, I know the difference.
